This is our Merlot predominant Reserve label.  This is a seductive and sensuous red wine from the 2008 vintage. A blend of 4 grape varieties, the flavours of plum, sweet spicy cassis, mint and earthy violets combine with long fine-grained tannins and sweet oak.  Matured for 15 months in predominantly new French oak barriques. Cellar up to 2014.

This is our Cabernet dominant Reserve label.  

A classic Bordeaux style, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.  This wine has a wonderful nose and the palate is generous, warm and spicy with complex flavours of cassis and plum. Savoury cedar oak and long soft tannins finish this wine beautifully. 

Age from 3 to 12 years, earlier for a more fruit driven style.

The grapes were all hand picked from a mixture of our estate 20 year old vines and some fruit from Gimblett Road. The fruit was crushed and de-stemmed in 2000 litre tanks, cold macerated for 3 days and fermented with a mixture of wild and inoculated yeasts. Temperatures reached 32ºC with a 4 hourly hand plunging and daily rack and returns. The wine then spent 28 days undergoing extended maceration.

The individual components were fermented separately and then blended at 12 months, undergoing 6 months ageing as a single parcel. The wine is made from 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Cabernet Franc, 14% Merlot and 12% Malbec.

“Serious yet approachable Hawke’s Bay red, ‘cabernet sauvignon dominant’, with merlot, cabernet franc and Malbec.  Grown at Te Awanga and in the Gimblett Gravels, it has dark, youthful colour, with a very inviting, complex bouquet of blackcurrents, spices, nuts and coffee. Situated on the coastline of Hawke's Bay in the Te Awanga sub-region, Clearview Estate Winery produces predominantly estate grown hand crafted wines.  This wine is an exception and a unique combination of "threes".

The original concept came following promotional trips round the USA and Canada with six other top New Zealand wineries and all pinot producers.  Tim sourced the grapes for this Pinot Noir from three of New Zealand's best Pinot regions: Central Otago, Waipara and the Wairarapa, from three of his favourite producers.

One of the vineyards was planted by his three daughters and eldest daughter Katie helped make the wine. Those responsible over the years for the wine's success are recognised on the front label.

This is not Pinot Noir for the faint hearted – black cherry, mocha and red berries dominate the front palate, underpinned with a brambly, earthy solidity of ripe tannins and cedary oak.  Enjoy any time to 2014.

Hand harvested from our estate grown old vines, this has been one of Tim’s most passionate drives in winemaking in 18 years.  Made only in the best vintages (1991, 1994, 1998, 2000 and 2004) our “franc” is regarded as one of the best in the country, and ages well for at least 10 years.

The great vintage of 2006 has produced an intense floral wine with plum, spice and rich cassis flavours supported by strong cedary oak and fine long tannins.

91% Cabernet Franc blended with 7% Merlot and 2% Malbec matured for 15 months in predominantly new French oak barriques.

2007 Two Pinnacles

Tim’s love of Malbec prompted him to plant 3 acres out here at Te Awanga and the vines continue to produce aromatic and highly coloured wine.

This unfiltered wine is warm and generous on the palate with lifted fragrant fruits of plums and violets. A power packed wine with deep damson hues and dense layers of spice and oak. This is a wine which will be approachable early in its youth, but will age wonderfully for 3-10 years. Drink earlier for a more fruit driven style.

The name "Two Pinnacles" honours the discovery of Cape Kidnappers by Captain James Cook. His diaries depict the peninsula and the "2 white rocks" although only 1 remains today.

2007 Endeavour

Again this is the realisation of a dream; the third release of our ultra premium, limited edition chardonnay.

Endeavour was made using exceptional hand-picked fruit, from our oldest Mendoza vines – the free-run juice was run directly to barrel without clarification. The juice underwent fermentation with it’s own naturally occurring wild yeasts. Regular lees stirring protected the wine through its first winter then natural malo-lactic fermentation took place in the spring as temperatures warmed up. The wine spent in total 2½ years in New Grand Cru French oak.

Endeavour was made with minimal intervention and natural deposits may form. It is a pure expression of our Te Awanga terrôir, made from vines we grafted ourselves, planted and tended for 24 years. It is absolutely unique!

The wine is boxed and presented in a red cloth bag which honours the first item traded by Captain James Cook, at Cape Kidnappers, Te Awanga, with local Maori on his discovery visit in 1769.

I will be drinking this wine in 2012 but it has the pedigree to last to 2015 and beyond. We congratulate you on your purchase of this very special and limited wine – enjoy with crayfish or a rich seafood dish and sauce.

2009 Semillon

Only our fourth ever Semillon predominant wine, the fruit quality in 2009 fully justifying the very limited bottling, this gorgeously rich, oaky Semillon was just too good to blend away. A concentrated wine, vibrant and fleshy with inviting citrus blossom and lime zest flavours, complimented with warm toasty oak.

All the grapes were hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. The wine was cool fermented in new American & one year old French oak barriques.Two barrels underwent malolactic fermentation providing extra richness and integration of oak and fruit. After 8 months maturation, with regular lees stirring the wine was racked to tank and blended with 5% barrel fermented Sauvignon Blanc.

Picked from our 20 year old vines and some of our newer plantings from our Te Awanga vineyards.  10 different soil types in the vineyard, 6 different picking times, 5 different barrel makers all contribute to the complexity of this iconic wine. 

The balance of fruit, acid oak and flavours is impeccable, whilst maintaining the trademark power. The result is a rounded and integrated wine with a luscious creamy texture.  Beautifully ripe tropical and stone-fruit characters and a back bone of toasty oak integrated with acid means that this wine will cellar well for many years.  

Hand harvested at 24-25 Brix, 40% of the grapes were given 6-10 hours skin contact, the rest were whole bunch pressed before the free run juice was fermented in 50% new oak of which 95% was French and 5% American.  4 different types of yeast were used including some wild ferments.  The wine was aged for 11 months with weekly stirring of the lees using 5 different barrel makers.  Bottled in February 2008.

2008 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc

These special grapes are grown on our famous Te Awanga shingle. The wine exhibits ripe tropical flavours of passionfruit and pineapple with the spine of crisp apples. With time the sauvignon characters disappear and the wine becomes lusciously oily and viscous. It is rounded and complex in style and very food friendly. Match with subtly flavoured fish dishes.Hand harvested ripe fruit at 24 brix. 100% barrel fermented with partial malolactic fermentation. This is a wine that will continue to develop with further cellaring. Bottled in February 2009, cellar up to 2013.

A powerful wine exhibiting many of the characters seen in the Reserve Chardonnay.  50% barrel fermentation in 1 year old oak has accentuated the wonderful fruit. 20% malolactic fermentation and the use of oak (French & American) has given this wine complexity and youth, the powerful trademark of Clearview.  Bottled December 2007. 2009 Unwooded Chardonnay

An easy drinking style, showing up-front fruit with good length, texture and a hint of sweetness. Floral and ripe tropical flavours combine with a mealy leesy complexity and the firm acid base also gives this wine ageing potential. This is a chunky fruit driven wine with glycerol viscosity giving a weighty mouth feel. Our unwooded chardonnay is hugely popular and an ideal food wine – try it with fish and fresh sauces.

Super ripe, hand picked fruit from our estate vineyards was whole bunch pressed and then fermented in stainless steel tanks. A residual sugar level of 3g/litre was retained to enhance the tropical fruit characters. Stirring of the lees was undertaken and 30% malolactic fermentation was used to create additional complexity, softness, and texture.

Elegantly rich, deeply spicy, rosy Te Awanga fruit has produced a wine with weight and roundness.  An aromatic wine full of turkish delight and pineapple, balanced with a semi sweet tropical finish.

The quality of the 2009 vintage with its clean fruit has resulted in a wine full of turkish delight and lychee balanced with a semi-sweet tropical finish. A fine second vintage from our new plantings.

The grapes were gently whole bunch pressed and the juice chilled and settled until bright. Aromatic yeast strains were used to inoculate the juice immediately after racking off juice lees. The ferment was kept cool at 10-12°to maintain varietal characters, then stopped to retain natural residual sugar.

This is a full bodied yet crisp and refreshing Hawke’s Bay Sauvignon Blanc exhibiting racy gooseberry characteristics with tropical flavours and herbal creamy undertones.

The grapes were carefully handpicked then whole-bunch pressed to minimise oxidation, maintaining vibrant fruit aromas and flavours. Cool stainless steel fermentation coupled with regular less stirring in tank and partial malolactic fermentation has produced a fruity wine with a soft, ample mouthfeel.

2009 Sea Red Dessert Wine

The classic Clearview meal finisher, a blend of Merlot and Malbec, late harvested for extra sweetness and raisin flavours.  Pressed out, fermented then fortified to 17.5%.  This fortified red dessert wine has an initial sweetness that is followed by a complex palate of juicy fruits and a soft dry finish.  Bottled in January 2008, this wine will cellar indefinitely - but why wait, enjoy it now!
