Waste Management
Our waste management initiatives include:
- Green waste separated and composted on site
- Guests reminded to recycle
- Batteries, lightbulbs and printer cartridges recycled locally, staff encouraged to bring items from home for safe disposal
- Used oil from kitchen sent for recycling
- Double sided printing and reuse single sided paper as office notepads
- Upcycling whenever possible – tables, platters, garden art, playground
- All cardboard, paper, cans and glass are recycled with bins easily accessible and labelled
- Advertise for polystyrene bins to be reused in the local area
- All food waste from plates is given to a local pig farmer
- Corks and screw caps are collected for the local Kindergarten and school for art projects
- Where possible redundant office equipment is donated or recycled at the E Waste centre
- Fryer oil from the kitchen is picked up by a local farmer to use as bio-oil
- Single sided printed paper is used in the office for note paper
- Wine boxes are always reused, and we encourage suppliers to take their packaging back
- Shredded office documents are used for chicken bedding or as a filler in wine boxes
- Bulk purchasing for the winery and kitchen to reduce packaging and transportation costs
- We use 100% recycled toilet paper
- All soaps and detergents are on pumps to minimise use
- All coffee grounds are used on the gardens as a mulch
- Delivery wrap made from recycled materials and is again recyclable
- No straws available within the restaurant since 2017
- Recycled paper bags, cardboard boxes and used wine boxes for wine sales
- Rubbish bags are 100% biodegradable
- Vegetable deliveries are made in reusable crates – no plastic where possible
- Milk purchased in bulk containers, decreasing plastic waste
