Energy
Our energy conservation activities include:
- Low-energy light bulbs where possible
- Timers on light switches in the public toilets
- ‘switch it off’ all staff taught to switch off lights when not in a room
- Use of a clothes line whenever possible
- All computers and printers turned off at night and during the weekends when no one in the office
- During the day printers have auto-sleep facilities
- All office lights on independent switches
- Hot water in kitchen and staff areas heated by gas
- In the off season some refrigeration switched off
- All cooking appliances in kitchen are powered by gas
- A new more energy efficient oven recently installed
- Rinsing and scrubbing glasses and cups in a scrubbing container – reuses water
- Heat pump in the office for heating
- 'Hot desk’ staff members share computers, using communication and rosters
- All washing is done in cold water to reduce the need for heating water
- Gas and power consumption is tracked, when there is a spike action is taken to reduce it.
- Outside diners are offered a lap blanket to keep warm
- Bicycles are always available outside the office for staff members to use around the vineyard
- Vine pruning’s are used in the fire, collected by local artists or used as mulch
- Group deliveries have been formed – 4 suppliers use the same courier time/service to reduce food kms
