2010 NZ BEEF & LAMB AWARD
The Clearview Estate Winery Restaurant sits among the
vines in a well-established coastal setting near Cape Kidnappers.
Specialising in lunch, weddings and functions, the
comprehensive seasonal menu features inspired and creative dishes
using Hawke's Bay Wine Country produce.
Our Chefs make innovative use of fine local seafood, meat,
poultry, dairy and seasonal artisan produce. These are combined
with fresh herbs, olives, citrus and avocados from the estate
gardens. Breads and desserts are baked daily on the premises
and the superb coffee is locally roasted.
We have long private tables amongst the grapevines for groups,
umbrella tables in the courtyard, and a more casual drinks area
near the children's playground: a place for you all!
In cooler weather we have a huge log fire with seating for at
least 60, and also our enclosed 'pavilion' which is gas heated.

"Our choice of Clearview for Margo's lunch was certainly a
very good one...thankyou to your staff and especially the Chef for
the requested Banana cake - we enjoyed the food, wine, also the
extra bottle of "Blush" from Tim, everything was perfect, even the
weather. We arrived back in beautiful but cold Queenstown
yesterday after a warm, pleasant week in Napier. We
will definitely recommend your delightful restaurant to anyone
visiting Hawkes Bay.
Margaret
& Alan Lange December 2009
"The venue was well sign posted and easy to find. The
area was very tidy and looked beautiful on a sunny day. The view
from the winery is wonderful, the sea is clearly visible and it
looked stunning, making for a positive atmosphere. The atmosphere
was very relaxing and informal, yet very professional"
mystery shopper comments May 08
"Thank you both so, so much for making our visit to
Clearview truly memorable. Clearview was certainly one of
the highlights of my clients visit. We loved the amazingly simple
yet highly successful operation at Clearview where everyone gets
their hands dirty in the wine-making experience!"
Regional Tourism Host, April 2008
"thank you all for a lovely lunch at Clearview Winery
this Easter Sunday. Compliments to the chef for beautifully cooked
salmon and fish dishes! Thanks also for the first class service.
Clearview is a wonderful place to dine and we will most certainly
be recommending it to our friends. Thanks once again and a very
Happy Easter to you all" Sue Hastings March
2008
"We were most impressed with the way the winery approached
our group of 10 - we had a table set up and the women that was
serving and talking us through the wines was amazing.
She was brilliant - very knowledgeable and friendly.
We went to four wineries that day and I have been to a number in
the past. By far, all of us had a better experience at
Clearview than any other place (and our purchases reflected
that).
We wanted to pass our thanks on to the company for providing a
superior service and also to the women that managed our group."

2008 cafe annual - a guide to NZ's cafes & restaurants
"Clearview Estate has always been one of our favourite New
Zealand winery restaurants. It manages to achieve a great balance
of extremely good food with a casual atmosphere, as opposed to a
common problem where the best restaurants become precious and
elitist."

Keith Stewart writing in GRILL magazine on food and wine
matching JAN 2006
“As New Zealand is a great food and wine country, the lack of
enthusiasm for making the most of food with wine, or vice versa,
suggests that restaurants have learned little in the half century
since they were granted licenses. The same observation on a sadly
lost opportunity could be made of wine producers as well who, with
few exceptions (Clearview in Hawke’s Bay being one) have
generally treated winery restaurants as service providers, rather
than market openings for their wines.”
NZ PARENTING MAGAZINE summer 05/06:
"...............and it was all true: divine food, fine wine,
great atmosphere and just oozing with country style. Who needs to
go all the way to Tuscany? The play area was large and rustic and
full of things made from barrels and wagon
wheels.........."
David Burton of the Dominion Post 2005:
Clearview is one of New Zealand's top six winery restaurants:
and
three of them are in Hawke's Bay
CLEARVIEW ESTATE, TE AWA and SILENI among the best!:
Joined by Carrick, Herzog & Pegasus Bay from the south
island.
"...all six of these
restaurants are located in the countryside, their common thread,
not surprisingly, is a strong identification with the landscape and
all the fine produce it yields"
Dominion Post, Monday 6th December 2004:
"Not only does Clearview have one of the best reserve
chardonnays in this country but also a restaurant that never fails
to impress."
Lauren Quaintance, Sunday Star Times Magazine, 5 June,
2005:
"It's like all the best things in Hawke's Bay have been squashed
together and laid out in one tiny little spot."
wine columnist Yvonne Lorkin:
"Clearview sources local seafood, meat and seasonal
produce and teams it up with its own homegrown olives, avocados and
fresh herbs to bring to your table a fare so outstanding, I'd rate
it one of the best I have eaten anywhere in the world....but then I
am partial to small places big in atmosphere."
Farzana Contractor, Writer for 'UPPERCRUST' An Indian lifestyle
magazine-www.uppercrustindia.com:
"Some of New Zealand's most highly rated wines are produced here.
You do pay a premium for this sort of attention to detail,
but the wines are superb, especially when enjoyed with the
restaurant's equally classy southern Mediterranean lunches outside
in the restaurant."
