NOVEMBER 2002NEW LABEL LAUNCHNo longer can we claim the mantle of having that label that people loved to hate. We took our time (about 14 years), the decision to re-brand has huge ramifications: labels, packaging, market awareness. The old blue label stood out (yes, we were told that the ugliest labels usually do). However Cape Kidnappers is non-negotiable - this landmark, a true icon of Hawke's Bay, is our point of reference to this great patch of dirt here at Te Awanga. It is our proximity to the Pacific Ocean, which gives our grapes their unique intensity of flavour and longevity. There is a design concept for the Reserve Range, the Estate Range and the non-standards such as the Sea Red. All of our new releases except the Cape Kidnappers Cabernet 2001 will sport the new label-we hope you like them-please tell everyone to look out for them. NEWS FROM THE WINERYHARVEST HAWKES BAY 2003This annual event is scheduled from the 31st of January - 2nd of February 2003. The Charity Wine Auction has been moved to Queens Birthday weekend in June. The weekends were fantastic, producing record crowds, and getting the message out there that Hawke's Bay is the premiere food and wine destination in New Zealand. We made great use of our time in Auckland, with Tim & Suzie conducting a preview tasting, at Vivace Restaurant. CLEARVIEW & VICTORIA UNIVERSITY PRESS PartnershipVictoria University Press is New Zealand's leading publisher of new fiction and poetry, and a scholarly publisher specialising in NZ history, biography and essays. Founded in the 1970s, VUP now has a backlist of over 200 books in print and issues on average 20 new titles every year, from authors such as Bill Manhire, Barbara Anderson, James Brown, Rachel Bush, Stephanie de Montalk, Elizabeth Knox and Damien Wilkins. With Helma as our own in-house bookworm, this association was inevitable. CLEARVIEW'S wines are now enjoyed at book launches and events of the Victoria University Press.
